Dr Tan Aik Hau is currently a consultant respiratory and intensive care physician at Mount Elizabeth Hospital. Prior to this, he was a consultant at the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Singapore General Hospital.

Dr Tan graduated from the National University of Singapore in 2004. He then obtained the Masters of Medicine (Internal Medicine) and Member of the Royal College of Physicians (United Kingdom) in 2009. He went on to specialty training in Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine at the Singapore General Hospital.
In the field of respiratory medicine, Dr Tan has a special interest in advanced bronchoscopic techniques such as endobronchial ultrasound, pleural diseases and medical pleuroscopy. He was the course director of advanced bronchoscopy courses in 2013, 2015 and 2017, which attracted participants from Asia and Australasia. He was also invited to speak at the 7th Asia Pacific Congress of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology in 2017.
In the field of intensive care medicine, Dr Tan has a special interest in extracorporeal life support (ECLS) and critical care ultrasound. In 2013, he was awarded a Health Manpower Development Award to pursue a clinical fellowship at the world renowned Alfred Intensive Care Unit in Melbourne. He received accreditation in the management of ECLS patients, as well as the Certificate in Clinician Performed Ultrasound from the Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine.
He has been the supervisor to the Respiratory Therapy Department, Singapore General Hospital from 2015 to 2018, and has a keen interest in advancing the technology of non-invasive ventilation. Teaching has always been a passion for Dr Tan. He held multiple teaching related appointments including Associate Program Director at Singapore Health Internal Medicine Residency, Adjunct Assistant Professor at Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School, Clinical Senior Lecturer at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and Clinical Teacher at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. In addition, he gives regular lectures at Nanyang Polytechnic to advanced trainee nurses. In recognition of his teaching efforts, he was presented the Singapore Health Residency Outstanding Faculty Award in 2016.
